Lessons learned
01
Be proactive.
Between what happens to me and how I respond, there's a gap. Everything I control lives in that gap.
02
Begin with the end in mind.
Covey has you write your own eulogy. Uncomfortable, and it reorganized what I was spending my weeks on.
03
Put first things first.
Important and not urgent is where the real work lives: training, relationships, planning. Urgent stuff crowds it out if I let it.
04
Seek first to understand.
Most people listen to reply. Listening to actually understand is rare enough that buyers notice it.
05
Sharpen the saw.
Sleep, training, reading, people. If I let the tool get dull, every other habit gets harder.
Who should read it
Anyone who wants a complete operating system for working and living, not just a tactic. It's slower than modern books and more durable.
