The Power of Patience
M. J. Ryan
Patience isn't waiting. It's staying calm and useful while I wait.

Lessons learned
01
Patience is a practice, not a trait.
Ryan treats it like a muscle. I'm not a patient person by nature, which is exactly why the book was for me.
02
The pause before the reaction.
Most of my impatience was really about control. Noticing the urge to push, and waiting one breath, changed a lot of conversations.
03
Delays aren't personal.
The slow prospect, the slow contractor, the slow student. Almost none of it is about me, and treating it like it is makes it worse.
04
Patience is a sales skill.
The deals I lost by pushing outnumber the ones I lost by waiting. Enterprise cycles reward the person who can sit still.
05
Small frustrations are the training ground.
Traffic, lines, and loading screens are free reps. If I can't handle those, I won't handle the big ones.
Who should read it
Anyone who's good at going fast and bad at waiting. A short book that I keep coming back to.
