The Psychology of Money

Doing well with money has little to do with how smart you are and a lot to do with how you behave.

Lessons learned

01
Nobody's crazy.

Everyone's money decisions make sense from inside their own experience. The guy who hoards cash lived through a crash I didn't. That changed how I talk to clients and family about money.

02
Luck and risk are siblings.

Outcomes are driven by forces outside anyone's control more than we admit. Be careful who I copy and careful who I judge.

03
Enough is a skill.

The hardest financial skill is getting the goalpost to stop moving. Hormozi says it one way, Housel says it quieter, and I needed both.

04
Compounding needs time more than brilliance.

Buffett's net worth came mostly after 65. The whole game is staying in it long enough for the math to work.

05
Save without a reason.

Savings that aren't earmarked for anything are what buy flexibility, and flexibility is worth more than returns.

Who should read it

Anyone with a paycheck. It's short, it has no formulas, and it fixed more of my money behavior than anything with charts.
